What stories…

The works taking part in the Award can be divided into two areas:

  • "Narrations"
  • "Studies and Research"

“Narrations”

The stories of experiences of struggle and change can be told both directly by the protagonists of the struggles themselves or by others.

They can be told by individual narrators, work groups or presented as collected narrations told by different voices.

These stories are called upon to contain at the same time experiences and know-how, built around participation and listening to the protagonists' voices, above all through the use - therefore - of narrations in the first person, such as autobiographical writings, oral narrations, interviews, etc.

The stories may contain information useful to making known the particular reality one wishes to narrate, through the collection of documentation and background research as well.

It will be possible to articulate the works that will be part of teh “narrations” cathegory according to differents “languages”, in order to get an efficient communication:

.

  • A utobiographical and biographical writings - texts, both in the form of writings about oneself, or stories of others;
  • Photonarrations - photographic reporting, which may be acompanied by texts: descriptive, autogiographical, poetic, etc.;
  • Videonarrations – videointerviews or documentaries, produced both directly by the protagonists of the experiences or by others;
  • Audionarrations - audiostories constructed through the use of reporting, interviews and oral narrations.
  • Other languages - poetry, novellistic, fiction, fotoromanzo, comic strip, or other artistic shapes of narration.

.

“Studies and Research”

The "Studies and Research " section has been included in the Award for works dealing with analyses of social struggles and events which go back in time, with research that links the past with the present (in a historical, sociological, anthropological - or, better yet, interdisciplinary - approach) or works which seek to connect several experiences from a comparative perspective, or works which in general use a more analytical rather than expressive approach.

However, it is possible to use different narrartive means here as well (text, photos, video, audio) in order to render the research work more expressive and communicative.

Both for the "Narratives" and the "Studies and Research" section, it will be possible to submit works produced specifically for the Award as well as works realized previously (including publications or works which have taken part in festivals, reviews, etc.)

.

TELLING METODOLOGIES OF SOCIAL STRUGGLES

It is very important that the stories include some reflection on the methods with which the experiences of social change have been realized. These may be structured or spontaneous , new or already existing methods. This will make it possible to share the experiences on the methodological plane as well.
