Pedagogical Didactic Area

The aim of the Stories of Possible Worlds Award is not only to encourage the telling of stories about social struggles in order to preserve the memory of them, but also to sustain shared reflection on the methodologies of social action and struggle.

The methods used by different movements and groups committed to a more just and fair world can be of the most diverse types: spontaneous or studied, using tools of education, participation, communication, art... Rarely do activists and citizens involved have the time and opportunity do reflect on such methods; and in the same way it is also not easy to share and compare these methods, which are often developed in very different places and contexts.

The Award aims to make a contribution from this standpoint, in keeping with the aims which characterise the Università Popolare dei Movimenti Sociali, created precisely in order to make possible the encounter of theoretical thought on social movements with concrete action in the field. Hence, the need to realise, starting from the stories, opportunities for training and awareness-raising for social activists and citizens in general.

A SHORT METHODOLOGICAL NOTE

By Alessio Surian, Urban Popular University of the International Alliance of Inhabitants

POWOS aims at sharing knowledge that has a potential for triggering transformative action. It is a horizontal activity, i.e. the objective is to reflect upon a group narrative and to make such narrative available to other groups. This can turn into an exchange activity when a group goes beyond narrating and starts to listen to the stories by other groups...

The Story of Stuff

From its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It'll teach you something, it'll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever.

“C” come CITTADINANZA

“P” come PARTECIPAZIONE

(Giorgio Gaber)
